Agent Snapshot: Sophia N. Ayala, Realtor, Ancona Real Estate

What was your first job in the real estate industry? I landed my very first job in the real estate industry as a personal assistant for a high producer agent at Related ISG in Fort Lauderdale.

Where did you grow up? I grew up in Chile and Central America. I moved to Miami when I was 18 years old.

Growing up, what did you want to be? I always wanted to be a dentist. I got inspired by assisting my mother when she had to work locally and abroad as a dentist for low-income families in very rural areas of Latin America. These doctors had to work under very difficult circumstances, but they took care of everyone without exception. Then I came to the U.S. and was fascinated with the modern architecture and waterfront living. Ever since, real estate was my fixation.

What do you do to relax when you’re stressed? I go for a run or a walk with my dog, especially at the beach. Listening to music is another way for me to disconnect and recharge my energy. Meditation has been my daily bread before I go to bed and when I wake up.

If you could have lunch with a well-known figure (living or not), who would it be and why? Princess Diana. She was a lady with all the attributes and compassion any woman should have – talented, charismatic, caring, and glamorous.

Where is your favorite place to hang out? I love hanging out by the beach when it’s a nice day. Luckily, we have a lot of those here in Florida. One of my favorite spots is Naples in the west coast. I embrace watching a beautiful sunset.

What do you love most about the industry? Its versatility – real estate can keep you busy, yet it allows you to have fun while working. It’s amazing!

How do you distinguish yourself from the crowd of agents? I love being myself. Transparency, dedication and loyalty are very hard to find. I am always down to listen to a great story – everyone has one. I learn from every person I meet.

Where do you go to network and meet new clients? I meet people everywhere I go. There are a variety of events, locally and out of state, that I target in order to build a bigger database.

What has been your greatest accomplishment? My greatest accomplishment has been building valuable relationships and making some dreams come true here in the U.S. Like the song says, ‘If you can make it here you can make it anywhere.’

What was the last good movie you saw or book you read? One of my favorite movies of all time is The Pursuit of Happyness with Will Smith. There is a book that I often go back to that contains a collection of beautiful essays from Daisaku Ikeda. It is called Hope is a Decision.

What is your favorite restaurant? Canyon Restaurant in Fort Lauderdale.

Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in Miami? One Thousand Museum Miami.

What kind of car do you drive? Lexus IS 200T

Smartphone or paper? Both. I’m an old soul in a Millennial’s body.

What is your favorite city after Miami? New York City

In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry? Be fearless, believe in yourself.

Who are your favorite people to follow on Twitter? @TonyRobbins and The Kardashians (@KUWTK)
