Katie Weisz Director of sales for Alba Palm Beach

Alba Palm Beach sales office, Palm Beach

What was your most interesting job before going into real estate?
I worked in PR and marketing for a well-known swimsuit manufacturer in Manhattan, N.Y., right out of college, and I got to meet so many talented and interesting creative people. I learned a lot from my first boss as well.
Where did you grow up?
Gainesville, Florida, and Cardiff, Wales. My mom, my biggest inspiration, was one of the first female scientists at the University of Florida. We spent every summer in Wales until I was a young adult, as my mom immigrated to the U.S. from the U.K. I enjoy visiting Gainesville now; it’s evolved a lot from when I grew up.
Growing up, what did you want to be?
I admire people who have a career calling early on in life. I did not have that. I’ve always appreciated fashion, design and architecture.
What do you do to relax when you’re stressed?
Pilates! Or getting on the floor and playing with my children. I separate myself from whatever is stressing me out.
If you could meet any well-known figure (living or not), who would it be and why?
I would love to meet Princess Diana; I deeply respect her philanthropy work.
Where is South Florida’s best-kept secret?
Eastpointe Country Club
What do you love most about the industry?
I love working with my developer to execute final floor plans, finishes, amenities, etc. I find it very rewarding and fun. I also love the human component; helping people purchase their dream home or find a great investment is a great feeling.
What is the most difficult aspect of your job?
I find it frustrating when agents don’t do their due diligence. But I think the most difficult aspect of my career, personally, is work-life balance; I am the mother of three young children and a workaholic. I do my best to be present at work and at home.
What’s your best advice for generating new leads?
Start with your inner circle! Become an expert on one area, ideally close to home. To be a true value-add, you have to know your market intimately.
What are you binge-watching/reading/listening to lately?
I don’t have a lot of free time, but I like true-crime documentaries and the book Let Them helped put things in perspective for me.
What’s your favorite meal in South Florida?
It is so hard to pick one! I love Milo’s West Palm Beach for a power lunch. For a girls’ night out, I love Buccan.
Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in South Florida?
Alba Palm Beach. Our architect of record is Spina O’Rourke, and they did a beautiful job seamlessly blending the building into the landscape of the neighborhood. The curves of the building are elegant and inviting.
What’s the weirdest thing that’s ever happened to you on the job?
I was part of a new development transaction for a notable high-net-worth tech entrepreneur, and everyone on our team had to sign an NDA, only for his team to leak the sale shortly thereafter. Separately, I think real estate agents are often in vulnerable situations, and it’s important to minimize being alone at open houses, especially as a woman.
What’s one thing people might be surprised to learn about you?
That I am a very good cook and often cater for large crowds. My dad was a chef, and I started helping him prep when I was around six years old. I enjoy hosting Shabbat dinners and holidays.
What’s your favorite vacation spot and why?
I am fortunate to have traveled extensively and love going to new places, but my mom’s beach house on Anastasia Island provides instant relaxation, and I have many fond memories from my childhood there. My husband and our children love going there too; it’s special and easy.
In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry?
Distinguish yourself from your peers.
Who are your favorite people to follow on social media?
@onesir, @french.ca, @jayshetty, and all of my friends and family!
