Agent Snapshot: Dawn Jackson, Realtor Associate, Coral Shores Realty, Miramar

Dawn Jackson

Dawn Jackson is a Realtor associate with Coral Shores Realty working in Miramar.

What was your first job in the realty industry? Realtor.

What do you do to relax when you’re stressed? When I’m stressed I take a break to be alone and speak to God. That is usually all I need!

Where did you grow up? I grew up in the city of Mandeville, in the cool, beautiful hills of Manchester, Jamaica!

Growing up, what did you want to be? I grew up in a family of teachers and entrepreneurs. As a result, I was absolutely convinced I would be both a teacher AND an entrepreneur (childhood madness). I wasn’t too far off, though. I worked in various areas of higher education before I entered real estate. I love both!

If you could have lunch with a well-known figure (living or not), who would it be? I would love to have lunch, dinner, breakfast, brunch or any meal with my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Sounds corny, I know. That’s fine, though. I have so many things to ask Him and thank Him for.

Where is your favorite place to hang out? Give me the beach and a good book any day.

What do you love most about the industry? First-time home buyers, hands down, with all their hopes and dreams and their hard-earned deposit. Helping them navigate the “treacherous” waters of the real estate market and buying their first home is a joy to me!

How do you distinguish yourself from the crowd of agents? I distinguish myself by being well-informed, patient and empathetic to my buyers and sellers. I tell it like it is – no false promises. I am great at what I do. And yes, so are other agents, but I believe my ability to see things from other people’s perspectives distinguishes me from the crowd, or so I have been told.

What is the most difficult aspect of your job? The hours are pretty long sometimes. Also, sellers come to me with preconceived notions of what they should be able to sell their home for, and buyers will sometimes feel as though they can find the home of their dreams within a tight budget. Many times their reality and the true state of the real estate market are miles apart. They are usually happy with the home we find though, and sellers will usually receive market value for their homes.

Where do you go to network and meet new clients? Any and everywhere! I work mainly from referrals now but I am very comfortable talking to others in any situation and invariably the subject of real estate will come up. Okay, okay…probably because I manage to work it into the conversation lol. In any case, I invariably end up with many of the people I meet at church, local networking event, restaurants, the gym (you get the point lol) as real estate clients.

What has been your greatest accomplishment? I am extremely proud of the children my husband and I have raised! :))

What was the last good movie you saw or book you read? The Bible. Simple. Its a constant work in progress and I am not finished, but is changing my life.

What is your favorite restaurant? Barbican Square Restaurant in Miramar. Their food reminds of my mom’s home cooked meals.(Yes, from Mandeville.) :)) …. In order for a meal to be ‘on point’ in my opinion, the rice and peas has to taste as though it was cooked at home, by MY mom :)), in a small pot lol. I have never been disappointed by anything they serve, ever. 🙂

Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in Miami? I attended a wedding at the Spanish Monastery in North Miami Beach. I was absolutely blown away by its ancient architecture. I fell in love.

What kind of car do you drive? I drive a Lexus SUV. I bought my first Lexus in 2002 and I have not let them go since. When I buy, I inevitably go to them first and then end up going no where else.

Smartphone or paper? Uuuum smartphone. What else is there?

What is your favorite city after Miami? Mandeville, Jamaica. #Home <3

In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry? Commit to it. Love it. Treat your clients well.

What’s your favorite real estate iPhone/Android app? The MLS.

Who are your favorite people to follow on Twitter? The White House and my hubby :))
