Fort Myers named one of the most-affordable, city-like towns in the nation

by Emily Marek

Suburbs and towns are a prime location for homebuyers looking for the convenience and appeal of a big city mixed with small-town sensibilities. New data from StorageCafe shows that Fort Myers is a prime example of a place that strikes the balance between city living and an affordable community.

Using previous research on the most city-like suburbs in the U.S., StorageCafe analyzed what it described as the top 100 suburbs in the country to determine how home prices vary in each.

Fort Myers ranked at No. 5 — a median home in the suburb costs $370,857, about $25,000 less than a comparable home in Cape Coral. With a median household income of $120,000, Fort Myers offers residents the amenities and experiences of a big coastal town at a much cheaper price.

Several other South Florida cities made StorageCafe’s top 100, including Venice (No. 16), Doral (No. 27), Boca Raton (No. 39), Palm Beach Gardens (No. 51) and Jupiter (No. 56).
