Jonathan Bigelman Global real estate advisor

One Sotheby's International Realty

What was your most interesting job before going into real estate?

I worked at a real estate hedge fund based out of Coral Gables and sold portfolios of Real Estate Owned (REO) properties located nationwide. This job was very interesting and gave me essential knowledge/experience I still deploy today!

Where did you grow up?

Miami, FL (Pinecrest/Coral Gables areas).

Growing up, what did you want to be?

A successful business owner.

What do you do to relax when you’re stressed?

Normally, exercising at the gym helps me relieve stress. Also, spending time with my family helps me a lot too.

If you could meet any well-known figure (living or not), who would it be and why?

Michael Jordan because he’s the GOAT! This man exemplifies greatness and is truly an inspiration for anybody looking to achieve great things in business or life.

Where is South Florida’s best-kept secret?

Viscaya Museum & Gardens

What do you love most about the industry?

The competitiveness and the upbeat nature of the industry. It’s constantly changing along with the market moving. Every day is different, and you never know what type of opportunities you’ll find yourself in.

What is the most difficult aspect of your job?

Having your time wasted by buyers or sellers that aren’t serious.

What’s your best advice for generating new leads?

Work your sphere – call and stay engaged with all of your past clients, friends, and family. Be ACTIVE on social media and share value.

What are you binge-watching/reading/listening to lately?

Currently binge watching new season of Peaky Blinders and about to start Limitless by Jim Kwik. I also love Lewis Howes and Ed Mylett podcasts every so often.

What’s your favorite meal in South Florida?

Great question – the restaurants/cuisine here are so great that my answer changes often. Right now, my favorite meal has to be the Omakase Dinner at The Den in Miami Beach.

Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in South Florida?

One Thousand Museum in Downtown Miami.

What’s the weirdest thing that’s ever happened to you on the job?

Having a tenant’s mother (who was in town visiting for the holiday) refuse entry to the buyer of a sales transaction the day before closing due to concerns over COVID. This was quite the drama and an emotional scene you only get at the movies.

What’s one thing people might be surprised to learn about you?

Despite how outgoing and social I am, people might be surprised to learn that I am a home body – love being at the house spending time with family relaxing.

What’s your favorite vacation spot and why?

This is a tough question. So many amazing vacation spots and many to still be discovered! I’d say Santorini, Greece, has to be it. Such a surreal and beautiful island with amazing sea views (stunning turquoise waters) – not to mention fabulous Greek cuisine and deep historic roots of the place.

In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry?

Cold call and connect/build your sphere.

Who are your favorite people to follow on social media?

Gary V, Grant Cardone, Ryan Serhant and Tony Robbins
