Karley Chynces Commercial real estate advisor

ONE Sotheby's International Realty

What was your most interesting job before going into real estate?

I was in tech. I built an app for college students to save money.

Where did you grow up?

Miami.

Growing up, what did you want to be?

I wanted to be something different everyday, but the theme was always around having my own business.

What do you do to relax when you’re stressed?

I take a step back to appreciate myself and capabilities: this includes having an intense workout, sitting in the sauna, taking an extra long shower and pampering myself all while listening to Kygo. The little things that cost nothing make me feel SO good.

If you could meet any well-known figure (living or not), who would it be and why?

Sara Blakely. She is self-made and her grit and consistency is admirable. She managed to build an empire and give back, all while living life.

Where is South Florida’s best-kept secret?

That’s why it’s a secret đŸ˜‰

What do you love most about the industry?

I’m a very social person, so the fact that I can hang out, go to events, have long meals with my clients and connect people with each other throughout the day makes my job fun.

What is the most difficult aspect of your job?

Sometimes doors are a lot harder to open than expected. Jokes aside, in a competitive industry along with a tough market, the most difficult aspect is accepting that a lot of factors are not controllable and making sure my clients are stress-free the entire time is very challenging.

What’s your best advice for generating new leads?

Cold calling and social media are easy ways to generate leads. Industry knowledge, trust and service close the deal.

What are you binge-watching/reading/listening to lately?

I’m a big fan of all the NPR, PompGlobal and Coindesk podcasts. I listen to at least two every morning while I get my day started. I read about two books a month, usually business, self-growth, sales, and psychology oriented.

What’s your favorite meal in South Florida?

If my favorite meal wasn’t a vaca frita con arroz y frijoles y maduros would I even be from Miami?

Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in South Florida?

The Biltmore has always been my all time fave. It is so historically elegant and will never go out of style.

What’s the weirdest thing that’s ever happened to you on the job?

I was showing an investment industrial property to a VIP client and when I was opening up the back door a lizard attacked me. The lizard attached onto my leg and wouldn’t come off and I had my client kick my leg to get it off. *Lizards are my biggest fear and I was not OK.

What’s one thing people might be surprised to learn about you?

I wake up at 5 a.m. every day.

What’s your favorite vacation spot and why?

Bahamas! It is so quick and easy to get to from Miami, and it feels like you’re in another world.

In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry?

Your first two years are basically an internship. Be a sponge and absorb everything.

Who are your favorite people to follow on social media?

therealdeal, bloomberg business, and archdigest
