Agent Snapshot: Penelope Rodriguez, Real Estate Advisor, Compass Florida, Miami

screen-shot-2016-09-16-at-9-31-49-amWhat was your first job in the realty industry? While I worked on marketing initiatives under the PolyGram record label and within the entertainment industry, I was introduced into the real estate arena. At that time, allocating proper housing for artists, musicians and celebrities came with the territory.

Where did you grow up? I am a true Miami Beach native. My attraction to real estate came as a child while spending time on the water, which allowed me to view land from a different perspective. It was then that I knew I was destined to be part of its movement.

Growing up, what did you want to be? Truly, I never wanted to be any particular thing. Instead my perception was, and still is, that I can develop my talents to be anything I desire to be at any given moment.

What do you do to relax when you’re stressed? Cooking is definitely a passion and a natural source of therapy for me, followed by movie watching, gardening and reading.

If you could have lunch with a well-known figure (living or not), who would it be and why? It’s a presidential election year, so it would definitely be Abraham Lincoln. I believe someone who managed to be such a significant part of the Civil War victory would love to experience the fruits of his efforts. After all, the success of the Civil War had barely taken a turn when he was shot. Just to be able to see his face, glowing at the thought that a black president has served and allow him the privilege of basking in the vision. Perhaps he could also give us an idea who the next president should be and advise that person how to be automatically effective.

Where is your favorite place to hang out? Home, surrounded by the ones I love and the things that bring me joy, is where my soul rests and gets energized. It’s a major reason for doing what I do.

What do you love most about the industry? I love how multifaceted the real estate industry is. Value, flexibility, energy, responsiveness and client engagement – it’s all fascinating.

How do you distinguish yourself from the crowd of agents? My experience as a marketer for many years, especially within the luxury arena, has allowed me to develop an eye for branding, content, promotions and advertising mediums with a strategic dedication to the growing demands of the luxury real estate market.

What is the most difficult aspect of your job? Real estate is an amazing business, which may be both personally and financially rewarding. Yet, if you are not willing to continuously educate yourself, and lack dedication and determination, it can be difficult.

Where do you go to network and meet new clients? Here, there and everywhere! I believe that any scenario can present an opportunity to meet new clients and turn old ones into repeat business. Once I found a new client in a surgery waiting room while a friend was undergoing surgery. You just never know where an experience may lead you or who you’ll meet.

What has been your greatest accomplishment? As a former integral partner in The Pierce Group serving as its VP and marketing/branding curator for Perfect Property Purchases, the marketing directives I elected brought prominent growth. As a result we were one of South Florida’s leading sales forces of high-end real estate on Miami Beach, while achieving a steady yearly growth of $120 million and approximately $500 million in listings.

What was the last good movie you saw or book you read? “Room,” a deeply emotional exploration of the love between a mother and her child. Whether you’re a parent or not, watch it!

What is your favorite restaurant? I have many favs depending on my cravings, but I love Zuma.

Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in Boston? Vizcaya the Italian Villa on Biscayne Bay built on the creativity of a Medici palace and one of Miami’s oldest and most incredible treasures.

What kind of car do you drive? Never ask a confident woman that. I’m driven.

Smartphone or paper? Smartphone with a mini note book, always.

What is your favorite city after Miami? Chicago

In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry? Learn, learn, learn. The more educated you are about your product, the more confidently you will perform.

What’s your favorite real estate iPhone/Android app? My favorite is our very own and one-of-a-kind Compass Markets app. It allows you to search neighborhoods of interest, evaluate metrics based on property stats and share market insights with your clients.
