CARIBBEAN

Miami Beach

Caribbean is an oceanfront condominium being developed at 3737 Collins Ave. in Miami Beach. Originally designed by architect Murray Dixon and built in 1941, the Caribbean Hotel was once a hot spot for the rich and famous who frequented Miami Beach during the Rat Pack days.

This historic oceanfront landmark is now undergoing a $10 million restoration by Christa Development Corporation and Bluerock Real Estate to become a condominium with 103 residences. Its façade is being restored and interiors are being completely renovated, including a new look for the lobby. New balconies, rooftop terraces, full-length impact resistant windows and glass railings will be added to units. The building is being restored to its original grandeur featuring black stone and terrazzo.

The existing North Tower, which is being completely renovated, has reached the sixth floor, and the new South Tower has reached 19 stories. As part of the project, the developers have also constructed Miami Beach’s only underground parking garage, with 108 spaces. Completion is on schedule for summer 2008.

Penthouses within the North and South Tower will feature private rooftop terraces and swimming pools.

Caribbean’s crystalline South Tower is being built by GT McDonald. Several direct oceanfront two- and three-bedroom units are available from $1 million.

Both buildings are planned to be completed at the same time. Jorge Rosso-Ubarri will be designing Caribbean’s new model, three-bedroom floor plan facing the ocean.

The sales center, recently named a finalist for Best Sales Center at the 2007 National Association of Home Builders Pillars of the Industry awards, has relocated to the front of the site.

Christa/Bluerock is a partnership between New York-based Christa Development Corporation (CDC) and Bluerock Real Estate. Kobi Karp is the architect for the project, and Christopher Ciccone is the interior designer and creative consultant.

Caribbean has been honored with two Florida’s BEST Awards: the gold medal for pool design and the silver medal for best landscape design. Witkin Design Group is behind both of these designing visions.
