LA-based KB Home relocates to Arizona

KB Home is moving its headquarters from Los Angeles to Tempe, Arizona.

Southern California-based homebuilder KB Home is moving its headquarters from Los Angeles to Tempe, Arizona.

KB’s new corporate home base in Maricopa County, located at the Hayden Ferry Lakeside business park, will preside over the company’s operations in 49 markets across the country. The change is set to be finalized next spring.

“This move brings our teams together in a more collaborative environment, and Phoenix is the right place to do it,” CEO Robert McGibney said in a press release. “It positions KB Home to operate more effectively and supports the next phase of our growth.”

The relocation is indicative of a greater pattern in the homebuilding industry: In 2012, the builder constructed four times as many homes in Los Angeles County as it did in Maricopa County. But in 2024, KB’s closings in Maricopa County outnumbered its L.A. closings eight to one (700 homes in Maricopa vs. 91 in Los Angeles).

And the trend isn’t stopping: The same year, L.A. authorized one single-family building permit per every 1,000 residents. In Phoenix, there were 4.6 permits per 1,000 residents.

KB Home will maintain a significant presence in California, however, with a concentration in the San Bernadino area.
