Jack-Elkins-Fite-Shavel

Jack Elkins is a manager at Fite Shavel and Associates working in Palm Beach, Manalapan and Hypoluxo.

What was your first job in the realty industry?  When I was a kid, I worked for my family on the construction sites. Then I would sit open houses for my mother, Bunny Hiatt, on breaks from college to make some more money.

I finallly became a full-time assistant with my mother and after two years of that I got to go into selling. This was important because it enabled me to have a full understanding of the industry and client relations before fully committing.

What do you do to relax when you’re stressed? Take my boat out by myself with my dog and enjoy where I live.

Where did you grow up? I grew up between Palm Beach and Manalapan.

Growing up, what did you want to be? I had wanted to be a lawyer, and then in high school I realized that I could not do that because I might have to defend a guilty person. Any job I was going to do I had to believe in 100 percent.

If you could have lunch with a well-known figure (living or not), who would it be and why? Living: Dolly Parton. She is one amazing woman, most people dont know how much she does, not only for her but pertaining to writing, singing and helping other artist. Some of her songs are sung by main stream artists. I like her work ethic

Dead: James Dean, just to see if he was really as cool as everyone built him up to be, or just a good looking guy with no personality.

Where is your favorite place to hang out? My Boat. The Keys. Peanut Island (on my boat). The Bahamas for vacation.

What do you love most about the industry? That everyday is as different as every deal. I also like the strong network of the other hard working agents that I have.

How do you distinguish yourself from the crowd of agents? I challenge myself to do it better each time, which means  providing better service and elevating every transaction.

What is the most difficult aspect of your job? TIME. You have to be available 24/7.

Where do you go to network and meet new clients? My clients find me by work of mouth.

What has been your greatest accomplishment? Every sale is my greatest accomplishmet…and the next one.

What was the last good movie you saw or book you read? Sacred Contracts. Titan.

I have not had time to make it to the movies, but I love them.

What is your favorite restaurant? Buccan and HMF.

Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in Miami? I love the idea and thought put into the function, rooms and entertainment of the W Hotel.

What kind of car do you drive? This is always changing as I am a car nut…G63 Mercedes S Class.

Smartphone or paper? Smartphone, but I think there might be a desire for me to go back to good ol’ paper.

What is your favorite city after Miami? Boston.

In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry? ha ha…

Make sure that you can go 1-3 years without making any money. And your friends are not just going to use you because you are friends.

What’s your favorite real estate iPhone/Android app? I love Google Earth.

Who are your favorite people to follow on Twitter? I don’t really follow Twitter, though I have an account. I like Instagram because it’s visual.
