JoAnn Forster is a senior vice president and estate agent at One Sotheby’s International Realty working in Coral Gables.

Where did you grow up? Portsmouth, Virginia

What was your first job in the realty industry? My first job was at Polly Hill Realty.

What is your favorite free-time activity? Painting.

What do you do to relax when you’re stressed? Boating, reading, and spending time with my family.

Growing up, what did you want to be? An actress.

If you could have lunch with a well-known figure (living or not), who would it be and why? I would have lunch with Maya Angelou. She was an old soul in a new age. Raped as a child, born into poverty, a renaissance woman. She saw life as an actress, singer, dancer, poet, and read at President Clinton’s inauguration. She spoke to the souls of people all over the world, of every race and every economic level. She spoke to me.

Where is your favorite place to hang out? Boating with my loved ones.

What do you love most about the industry? Waking up every morning anticipating the possibilities I have and the people I get to help.

How do you distinguish yourself from the crowd of agents? I bring myself to the business, and I am my fiercest competitor. I always want to learn more, help more, do better and pass it on.

What is the most difficult aspect of your job? Finding balance with the important things in life.

Where do you go to network and meet new clients? Love Master Broker’s Forum, traveling to Sotheby’s International Realty functions and being a working part of a few organizations. I can network at Fresh Market, Greenstreets or Books and Books! When you really like people and have joy, everywhere is your network.

What has been your greatest accomplishment? I am proudest of being a wife, mother, sister, daughter, grandmother and friend.

What was the last good movie you saw or book you read? I am an obsessive book reader and love so many books I have read. Love The Book Thief, And The Mountains Echoed, Gone Girl, Sarah’s Key and so many more.

What is your favorite restaurant? Dinner my husband cooks on the grill on our boat.
