Agent Snapshot: Christopher Adeleke, Top Producer, Cervera Real Estate, Downtown Miami & South Beach

Christopher Adeleke is a top producing agent with Cervera Real Estate in the Downtown Miami and South Beach markets.

What was your first job in the realty industry? My first job in real estate was during college as a weekend receptionist for Real Livings Castles Realty in Boca Raton, Florida.

Where did you grow up? I grew up in Kendall on Sunset Drive.

What is your favorite free-time activity? I enjoy hosting dinner parties for my friends and clients, traveling and tennis.

What do you do to relax when you’re stressed? When stressed, I like to pray and I say positive affirmations to myself.

Growing up, what did you want to be? I’ve always known that I wanted to be in real estate. As a child, I used to host mock open houses for my family in our own home. Ironically, I found my parent’s primary home in Miami and vacation home in Naples before I was in high school.

If you could have lunch with a well-known figure (living or not), who would it be and why? I would love to have lunch with President John F. Kennedy; he was president of our country during some difficult years (race barriers, new space age, etc), so I would like to know how it was like to lead a country and have millions of people follow his dreams.

Where is your favorite place to hang out? If you do not find me with clients, I am most likely at the beach. There is something so organic about hearing the waves crash in background as you enjoy a good book in the sand.

What do you love most about the industry? The people that you meet from day to day is exciting for me. I am a “people” person, and I have had the opportunity to meet some great people and hear their stories.

How do you distinguish yourself from the crowd of agents? My motto is “Love is in the details.” It is easy to get caught up with treating all clients alike, but everyone is special and needs to be treated in a way that makes them feel comfortable. I like to engage my clients in conversations that are outside of real estate, so you understand them better.

What is the most difficult aspect of your job? I thrive on working and getting deals done for my clients. However, I do find myself struggling to disconnect from work. I need to learn that I do not have to answer emails till the wee hours of the night, and I need to enjoy life and focus on me.

Where do you go to network and meet new clients? Being a local, I have a great base through my high school friends, college friends and my fraternity brothers.

What has been your greatest accomplishment? I was introduced to a French investor that had a hard time selling his 11 luxury units with another agent. At first, he was weary about listing his properties with me, since he got burned by his previous agent. However, I had a candid one-on-one talk and went over specific problems that caused his properties not to sell. It turns out that he signed all his listings to me and I successfully sold them all in a matter of months.

What was the last good movie you saw or book you read? “Life of Pi.”

What is your favorite restaurant? There is nothing better than a Sunday Funday at Greenstreet Café in Coconut Grove. I’ve been going here for years. Great food and service!

Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in Miami? Fontainebleau in Miami Beach is one of my favorite buildings inside and out. I also love the history behind the buildings; some of the greatest entertainers now and then have stayed and performed at that legendary hotel. The curve in the main tower boast sweeping views of the ocean and the bay, which is so appealing. It makes me think of the old school Miami in the 50s and 60s.

What kind of car do you drive? I drive a Mercedes Benz.

Smartphone or paper? Smartphone.

What is your favorite city after Miami? New York City. I travel there at least four times a year.

What is your advice for someone new to the industry? Have money saved up; real estate is expensive to start-up.

What’s your favorite real estate iPhone/Android app? Supra eKey for iPhone; I feel like Inspector Gadget.

Who are your favorite people to follow on Twitter? Dr. Oz and my sister; she is always ranting about something.
