Neil Ross is the president of Ross Home Loans in Miami Beach

What was your first job in the realty industry? My first direct job in the realty industry was as founder and president of Ross Home Loans.

Where did you grow up? I grew up in the City of Rye, New York, a residential, tranquil village community with a history dating to 1660.  Rye offers a short commute to New York City and New England. Great place to learn about the importance of family, friends, education, work and ethics.

What is your favorite free-time activity? I like to spend my free time with family as well as at the beach or tennis courts. Just started playing golf again.

What do you do to relax when you’re stressed?  I keep perspective and focus on family, beach and other activities.

Growing up, what did you want to be? I wanted to be an entrepreneur, to start and grow my own business.

If you could have lunch with a well-known figure (living or not), who would it be and why? Thomas Jefferson, a Founding Father of the United States and the principal author of the Declaration of Independence.

Where is your favorite place to hang out? My favorite place to hang out is on the beach, as I enjoy the ocean and the outdoors.

What do you love most about the industry? Finding solutions for borrowers who could not obtain financing with others, and receiving thanks from clients who appreciate my service. I also enjoy meeting clients from all over Florida, the United States and different countries.

How do you distinguish yourself from the crowd of agents? I distinguish myself by having access to multiple products for different financial situations, for clients from the United States and other counties, as well as keeping current on Fannie Mae, portfolio and lender guidelines.

What is the most difficult aspect of your job? Overcoming challenges stemming from unreasonable expectations.

Where do you go to network and meet new clients? Most of my new clients are referrals from past clients, Realtors, bankers and attorneys.

What has been your greatest accomplishment? Academically, being excepted to Cornell University and one of the youngest to be accepted to the Executive MBA Program in Finance at NYU. Professionally, started a successful company that helped many borrowers finance the purchases of their homes.  Personally, schedule a lunch with me to learn more!

What was the last good movie you saw or book you read? “The Hunger Games.”

What is your favorite restaurant? Yard Bird and Joe’s.

Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in Houston? Too many buildings to select from, but I enjoy the Miami skyline at sunset.

What kind of car do you drive? A convertible Mercedes in Miami, and a convertible Jaguar in New York.

What is your favorite city after Miami? New York City and Paris.

In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry? Develop a strong work ethic.
