Jordan Millman is the broker/owner of West Avenue Realty in Brickell/Downtown

What was your first job in the realty industry?
I started off working for a real estate brokerage based in South Beach. I was a top producer my first year in a company with over 400 agents.

Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Pinecrest, Florida. At that time it was a peaceful, low-key suburban neighborhood. Now it is filled with Mediterranean mansions and home to celebrities, such as producer Timberland and Dwayne Wade from the Miami Heat, before he moved to Miami Beach.

What is your favorite free-time activity?
Just kick back relax and enjoy everything Miami has to offer. This is the best city to be in the winter, and in the summer I try to travel as much as possible since it is slow season here in Miami.

What do you do to relax when you’re stressed?
I like weight training, bike riding, yoga and sometimes a deep tissue massage to reward myself after a good workout.

Growing up, what did you want to be?
I always wanted to be a businessman growing up, but didn’t know in what field until I fell in love with South Beach over 10 years ago.

If you could have lunch with a well-known figure (living or not), who would it be?
That is a tough one, but, I would probably say J.P. Morgan. He was one of the most ambitious businessmen in American history and was a master negotiator creating win-win situations.

Where is your favorite place to hang out?
In Miami my favorite spot is the Fontainebleau. It has great restaurants, beach access and entertainment. It is truly the only Vegas-style resort in the city. After FB, the Village at Merrick Park, Bal Harbour and in the future Brickell Citicentre looks like it will have a lot to offer.

What do you love most about the industry?
I enjoy meeting new people from all over the world and trying to find the property that is the best fit for the individual or family. I really appreciate all the investors who believe in Miami and help create this beautiful skyline and get huge satisfaction in finding a someone their dream home.

How do you distinguish yourself from the crowd of agents?
I consider myself one of the most ethical and knowledgeable real estate brokers in the city. I always find my clients the best deal and will look out for their best interests.

What is the most difficult aspect of your job?
It is not always easy dealing with the emotional side of the business. Moving house can be one of the most stressful events for a person, and I try to make the process as easy as possible for all parties involved.

Where do you go to network and meet new clients?
I learned early on that I am not a typical “salesman.” I don’t try to meet new clients by networking, but I always enjoy making new friends that may eventually become clients once they learn my ethical principals, knowledge and local expertise.

What has been your greatest accomplishment?
My greatest accomplishment was definitely finding my wife. We were married this past May and she is the love of my life. She is a big supporter of my career and a true life partner.

What was the last good movie you saw or book you read?
I really liked the movie “Side Effects.” The main character did not give up when everything was stacked against him and it is a good story about the value of persistence.

What is your favorite restaurant?
It depends on my mood. For a good burger, Bourbon Steak by Michael Mina, and for Italian, Scarpetta at the Fontainebleau.

What is your favorite building in Miami?
My choice is probably not the most architecturally significant, but I believe has the biggest impact on the city. I still love the Miami Tower building in Downtown Miami. It changes colors every night and lights up the skyline. A real mood changer for the city.

What kind of car do you drive?
I have a V8 Jaguar XF. It gives me a sporty feel but is also perfect for entertaining clients.

Smartphone, or paper?
I have a Galaxy Note II and love it. I also try to use e-sign or Docusign whenever possible in my transactions.

What is your favorite city after Miami?
Las Vegas, because of the great food, nightlife, entertainment and weather. The desert also has a very relaxing feel when you get off the strip.

What is your advice for someone new to the industry?
Being social, hardworking and knowledgeable is the key for success.

What is your favorite iPhone/Android app?
I actually like the Realtor.com application. The feature that gives you information on properties near your current location is a lot of fun when traveling.

Who are your favorite people to follow on Twitter?
I like to follow local celebrities, like DWADE and my friend from high school DJ IRIE. I get so much satisfaction to see my friends succeed.

a thoughtful interview and substantial answers. I wish Jordan continuing success.

  • Nina Millman says:

Absolutely. There are too few deep thinkers out there and even fewer professionals of Jordan’s caliber who are concerned with their client’s best interests over their own.
