Two Florida cities among best for Realtors

by John Yellig

When it comes to selling houses, not all cities are created equal. Lucky for agents in Tampa and Jacksonville, their cities are among the best in which to operate, according to a new study.

Clever Real Estate ranked Tampa No. 4 and Jacksonville No. 7 among the best U.S. cities for real estate agents. The firm looked at a variety of metrics that affect a Realtor’s career, including housing affordability, annual salary, number of agents per 100,000 residents and annual home sales per full-time agent.

Among the factors weighing in Tampa’s favor, Clever noted agent salaries, which were the fourth-highest among markets studied, at $76,150 per year, compared to a median of $50,345.

Tampa Realtors have also benefited from rising home values, which are up 71.2% since 2019 – the most in the U.S. Tampa is also one of the more affordable cities for real estate agents to buy homes, ranking sixth.

Jacksonville agents, meanwhile, enjoy robust business, with the typical full-time agent selling 24.6 homes over the last year, the 10th best in the country. Other factors in Jacksonville’s favor include home-price growth, strong salaries and the ease of obtaining a real estate license in Florida.

The top 10 cities for agents are:

  1. Detroit
  2. Buffalo, N.Y.
  3. Kansas City, Mo.
  4. Tampa, Fla.
  5. Richmond, Va.
  6. Columbus, Ohio
  7. Jacksonville, Fla.
  8. Atlanta
  9. Pittsburgh
  10. Hartford, Conn.
