Brown Harris Stevens Miami launches commercial division

by Zachary Wright

In efforts to compete with other South Florida brokerages, Brown Harris Stevens Miami launched a commercial real estate division. With this new focus, BHS Miami looks to buy office, retail and development sites, The Real Deal reports.

Phil Gutman, president of the Miami firm, will oversee the new division, to be led by Jeff Cohen, managing broker, and Saad Hamdan, vice president. Cohen’s previous deals include Jason Halpern’s $55 million bulk acquisition of a condo building in Surfside and Atlas Capital Group’s $18.4 million sale of a development site in Miami’s Arts and Entertainment District in 2017.

Other residential brokerages in South Florida have also crossed into the commercial realty market. Brokerages like One Sotheby’s International Realty and Douglas Elliman established commercial divisions or separate companies in recent years. This also includes Compass, the real estate firm now worth $2.2 billion. In early August, Compass Commercial was launched nationwide after SoftBank invested $450 million in the real estate company.
