Every week, we ask a real estate professional for their Short List, a collection of tips and recommendations on an essential topic in real estate. This week, we spoke with Judy Jordan, Galena Urman and Jonathan Shvartsman, the core agents of the Lucky Real Estate Team, a member of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Luxury Collection, who shared their tips for working in an effective team.

5. Have Specialties – Each of our members, Judy Jordan, Galena Urman and Jonathan Shvartsman, brings a different set of experiences and talents to the team that bolster the others, which is something every team should aspire to. Judy has a background in sales and psychology, Galena has a background as an attorney, which is obviously helpful in contracts and legal situations, and Jonathan, who’s fairly new to the team, has a background in sales. The key is understanding each others’ strengths and, perhaps more importantly, weaknesses, and then leveraging that information into a cohesive, synergistic team. Even things like where you come from can be a boon to business. For instance, Judy understands a lot of the local scene, Jonathan speaks Russian, which helps with some of the foreign presence, and Galena hails from the north and works with a lot of our Midwestern clients.

4. Keep your energy up – One of the things clients frequently comment on is our energy as a group. We keep things lively and people always appreciate it.

3. Motivate – Real estate can sometimes be a grind, which is why it’s important that team members always motivate and encourage each other.

2. Always do things together – We don’t run into too many communication problems, because we always work together and keep each other in the loop. Teams shouldn’t be trying to play telephone or work through email. To avoid any disconnect, it is important to work together towards a common goal.

1. Work with new clients together – Whenever we bring in a new client, we want to showcase each of our strengths, but not at the cost of the team. Discuss each new listing or buyer together before taking him or her on to determine how best to satisfy his or her particular needs. Again, each team member has their own strength, and you want to knead those together so the client sees the all encompassing capabilities of your team as a collective and not as a group of individuals.

Judy “Luck” Jordan, the leader of the Lucky Real Estate Team, has brought together a collection of talented agents that boast widely varied backgrounds. Judy herself brings an impressive resume of both real estate and psychology, which has helped her understand and handle all types of clients. Galena, an associate broker, comes from a law background, earning her J.D. from the Thomas M. Cooley Law School. Jonathan is a salesman, through and through, who recently left the automotive industry to join the Lucky team.
