Work Experience:
John K. Markey’s experience spans nearly three decades in the development and building industry. As the consummate self-performing developer, he has learned all aspects of the business from the ground up.
A Harvard-schooled architect, contractor and developer, Markey brings out-of-the-box thinking and an aggressive style to all projects. He began his career learning various construction trades while attending architecture school at the University of Arizona.
Markey opened his own firm, JKM Design/Build Inc., in Maryland, where he managed the company and was the design architect and contractor for multiple commercial and residential developments. He managed projects from concept through schematic and developmental design.
In the 1990s Markey relocated to Palm Beach County, Florida, and joined James Hoffman to form Hoffman, Markey Architects, P.A. He then joined the South Florida architectural firm, Tektonica, as a managing partner and project architect.
In 2001, with a proven track record and established professional reputation, Markey joined Elie Berdugo at EB Developers, Inc. as Chief Operating Officer. Mr. Markey assumed responsibility for overall company direction and profit and loss margins. In his tenure with EB he has overseen company growth from $60 million under development in 2001 to a present value in excess of $5 billion.

As COO, Markey oversees the company’s $5 billion portfolio of distinguished homes and developments. Following are a few of EB’s current developments for which Markey is overseeing construction:
The $700 million Landmark at Doral is a 120-acre mixed-used development. Upon completion, Landmark at Doral will encompass more than 1,000 luxury condominiums and town homes, 100,000 square feet of retail space and more than 360,000 square feet of professional office space.
The Gables Marquis consists of a luxury high-rise condominium, carriage and coach Homes from the mid-$300,000. It is located steps away from downtown Coral Gables and Miracle Mile. The Gables Marquis offers 177 residents views of Coconut Grove, Sail Boat Key and the Miami city skyline.
The Promenade at the Islands of Doral in Miami features a village of nearly 800 garden villas in a new urbanism setting in Doral.
Citymark at Orlando, a 500-unit luxury hotel featuring 1,300 luxury condominiums in the heart of Orlando.
Recently Completed:
The estate homes of Ocean Ridge, St. Andrews Country Club and Mizner Del Mar in Boca Raton and the Belmont apartments in Boynton Beach, Ft. Lauderdale and Port St. Lucie.
