Megachurch pastor T.D. Jakes‘ real estate company, T.D. Jakes Real Estate Ventures, has partnered with New Urban Development, one of Miami’s largest Black-owned real estate developers, to build affordable-housing communities in Hallandale Beach and Miami Gardens.

In Hallandale Beach, the strategic partners will build a 200-apartment mixed-income community on five acres. The project, located at the center of a historic Black community, is expected to break ground in the first quarter of this year.

In Miami Gardens, the partners will develop a new senior-living community with 150 units next to the Miami Gardens Senior Family Center. The new facility will feature a clubhouse and walking trails and be situated on seven acres that Miami Gardens awarded to New Urban, which is The Urban League of Greater Miami’s development affiliate. Miami-Dade County provided funding for the project.

“Florida continues to grow, and the need for more living options is at an all-time high,” said Marcus Dawson, managing partner of T.D. Jakes Real Estate Ventures. “It is our mission to create the necessary alliances that help address the most glaring issues like affordable housing. New Urban Development shares our vision for community transformation for seniors and underserved populations, and their accomplishments in South Florida model what development should look like in our communities.”
