Miami among top 10 most neighborly cities in America

by Emily Mack

What makes a city neighborly? A new study from StorageCafe aims to answer that question. The industry blog surveyed 11,000 Americans to determine what, exactly, makes a friendly community — and where those communities are.

Overall, StorageCafe found that most Americans like their neighbors. Sixty-seven percent of respondents indicated their satisfaction with their neighbors while 45% also reported a strong sense of neighborhood community. Those two factors, along with involvement in community activities and a willingness to recommend that neighborhood to others, went into calculating the final list of neighborly cities.

StorageCafe considered 30 mid-to-large American metros for the ranking.

The top 10 most neighborly cities, according to StorageCafe

No. 1: Indianapolis, Ind.
No. 2: Columbus, Ohio
No. 3: Houston, Texas
No. 4: Minneapolis, Minn.
No. 5: Raleigh, N.C.
No. 6: Nashville, Tenn.
No. 7: Miami, Fla.
No. 8: San Francisco, Calif.
No. 9: Orlando, Fla.
No. 10: Charlotte, N.C.

Sixty-eight percent of Miami respondents reported satisfaction with their neighbors, making it the seventh-most neighborly city in America. Forty-four percent reported a strong sense of community, 65% reported community involvement and 64% would recommend their neighborhood to others.
