Industry MVP: Gus Rubio, Douglas Elliman

Gus Rubio brings more than 25 years of experience and a wealth of knowledge in real estate’s key areas of sales, marketing, franchising, acquisitions and operations in the luxury market to his role as Chief Operating Officer for Douglas Elliman’s Florida Brokerage.

Known as a forward-thinking professional with a stellar reputation, his executive leadership focuses on driving the company’s record growth by recognizing new opportunities in an industry that provides seemingly unlimited avenues for creating wealth and value. Working closely with Jay Parker, CEO of Douglas Elliman’s Florida Brokerage, he leads the development of sales strategies, financial goals and business development while working to expand Elliman’s top tier talent pool of agents, managers and associates, raising the bar of real estate standards throughout the region.

Prior to joining Douglas Elliman, Rubio served as Chief Operating Officer for ONE Sotheby’s International Realty where he oversaw nine offices, 15 development projects, more than 360 sales associates and 45 staff employees. The driving force behind the organization’s strategic initiatives and company culture, he helped to set new company records and played a key role in growing one of the world’s leading real estate brands, with sales over $95 billion in 2016.

On his way to Chief Operating Officer, Rubio also held positions including Executive Vice President for Realogy’s Global Services Division, where he was responsible for developing Sotheby’s International Realty as well as the company’s five other real estate brands, including Better Homes & Gardens, Century 21, Coldwell Banker, Coldwell Banker Commercial and ERA.

Living and working in Brazil, China, Puerto Rico and Europe, Rubio worked tirelessly to further the reach of his brand to global clientele and today, remains affiliated with the Latin America, US Hispanic and Greater Miami & Pembroke Pines Chambers of Commerce. In addition to his professional advocacies, he is active in several philanthropic organizations, including St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Habitat for Humanity and DE Shares, the charitable arm of Douglas Elliman South Florida, which advocates for local and national charities by sharing time, resources and experiences.

Fluent in English and Spanish and proficient in Portuguese, Rubio holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Columbus University.
