Marilyn Cromer is a Realtor with Avatar Real Estate Services working in Miami.

Every week, we ask a Miami real estate professional for their thoughts on the top three stories from the week before. This week, we spoke with Marilyn Cromer, Realtor at Avatar Real Estate Services.

Miami Agent (MA): We’ve recently reported that the Millennial generation is not very active in the housing market. Are you also noticing a lack of homebuyers in the 18-35 age range?

Marilyn Cromer: No, not really – maybe 18, but not in the 30s. Eighteen is a little young; they’re still in college. But in the early and late 30s, there are a lot of people buying large homes. There are a lot of people in finance, there are a lot of professionals in Miami; I think they’re buying quite large homes and condos. I think having that young group of buyers is helping the market. They love Brickell Avenue, the downtown area and the night life. They’re making the market better.

MA: Contrary to much of the country, we’ve seen reports that inventory is actually increasing in Miami. Are you seeing that as well?

MC: I think it’s definitely increasing. People see that the prices have gone up, and the people that were waiting to put their houses on the market are putting it on the market now. People that didn’t have to sell waited and now are putting it on the market, so there is a bigger increase. Prices have gone up, so people think now may be the right time to put their house on the market. I think inventory is increasing more in the higher price ranges than it is in the lower price ranges.

MA: One of our recent features discussed ways for new agents to get off to a good start in their careers. What have you done to evolve beyond that stage to become a consistent top producer?

MC: I do a lot of networking. I am always out there trying to meet people. I change where I am going and what I am doing constantly. I take courses, just to know what is going on in the market. The best ways to reinvent yourself are to meet new people, join clubs and go to functions. Don’t be afraid to try new methods.
