Master Broker Forum member, Chris Crystal of Miami Real Estate Co., sold a 5,098 square-foot home nicknamed “Fantasy Island” for $4,700,000. The sale was completed on December 3, 2012.

The home, located on at 382 Bayside Court in south Coconut Grove, was designed in the late 1970s by architect Barry Sugarman, and constructed in 1980. The sellers of the home, Miami’s well-known Varat family, were also its original owners.

The three-bedroom, three-and-a-half bathroom home is nicknamed “Fantasy Island” because of its elaborate features, such as an all-glass two-story living area highlighted by the view of Biscayne Bay. “Fantasy Island” also has a private sauna, multi-level decks, a heated pool and enough dockage for a yacht and a smaller sailing vessel.

“Mort and Anita Varat enjoyed tremendous success in all aspects of their lives,” Crystal said. “The family is extremely close and loving, and for 30 years, this home hosted multiple weddings, special occasions and numerous family gatherings. This is a very high price for a three-bedroom home, but the distinctive architecture and refined level of craftsmanship certainly impacted the value.”
