Florida Builder Puts Successful Strategy on the Market

by admin

A green builder in Florida is looking to license its successful business model.

MyGreenBuildings, a Sarasota, Fl.-based green builder, is one of the fastest growing companies in the U.S., and it is looking with licensing its successful business model to companies across the country.

Since starting in 2006, MyGreenBuildings has netted $14 million from 40 renovation projects, and they have $5 million in additional projects for the remainder of 2011. MyGreenBuildings works as a high-end, sustainable-energy builder that produces homes with low carbon footprints. In Inc magazine’s rankings of the 500 fastest growing U.S. companies, MyGreenBuildings was number 326 – and the only green builder on the list.

So confident are owners Steve Ellis and Grant Castilow in their “bulletproof” business model that they’ve filed for a licensing program to allow other builders and investors to utilize their brand.

Ellis said that licensing, in addition to being less risky than franchising, allows MyGreenBuildings to gauge new markets for expansion. In addition to new markets in Florida (such as Tampa, Orlando, and Naples), MyGreenBuildings is also considering a road show that would advertise their brand in Boston, New York, Boston and other leading metropolitan markets.

MyGreenBuildings’ licensing agreement will include training and coaching in sales and business development. Licensees must build to MyGreen’s specifications and support the company’s brand marketing.

MyGreenBuilding’s have not indicated, though, how much companies would pay for the license, though fees would vary based on the size of the market.
