Florida ranked No. 1 state for retirement

by Patrick Regan

Florida ranks No. 1 in RetirementLiving’s 2022 Best States for Retirement report.

The annual report uses 13 data sources and reader feedback to measure states on cost of living, quality of life, health care and other categories, then tallies the results to determine the rankings.

Florida ranked No. 1 in reader feedback, No. 5 for quality of life, No. 8 for affordability and No. 39 for health care.

“Twenty-one percent of the population is over the age of 65, and state parkland is abundant. You’ll find senior communities and activities plentiful in Florida,” the report said.

The top 10 states on the 2022 list are, in order: Florida, New Hampshire, Arizona, North Carolina, Alaska, Texas, South Dakota, Washington, Nebraska and Alabama.

The worst state for retirement, according to the rankings, is Illinois.
