Anthony Askowitz is the broker/owner of RE/MAX Advance Realty in South Miami and Kendall.

Every week, we ask a real estate professional for their Short List, a collection of tips and recommendations on an essential topic in real estate. This week, we talked with Anthony Askowitz, broker/owner of RE/MAX Advance Realty in South Miami and Kendall.

10. Be highly selective with the people you recruit. Even if they have impressive numbers, avoid negative agents, ones with reputations for poor ethics and past producers who are riding on outdated reputations.

9. I understand that novices and beginners have to start somewhere – but not at my firm! We only hire experienced top producers, and the folks we are recruiting appreciate that distinction.

8. This goes without saying, but be honest and transparent. If your firm has a weakness, address it up front and let the recruit know you are working on it. If you have a concern about something in a recruit’s work history, ask them to explain it.

7. Send out email blasts announcing new agents, and publicly welcome them to the team.

6. Don’t stop there – post welcome messages on your company’s Facebook page and on all your social media channels.

5. Treat your current agents with respect, professionalism and dignity, and you know what happens? They will do the recruiting FOR you.

4. Don’t be a wallflower – get out, get seen and get active at community, charity and real estate events.

3. Post online videos of new recruits and established associates saying good things about the office.

2. Make sure your office is always clean, modernized and ready to showcase.

1. Empower everyone – offer your recruit the ability to be their own boss.

Anthony Askowitz is the president and managing broker of RE/MAX Advance Realty. In 2011, RE/MAX Advance Realty earned the company’s “Florida Office of the Year” award, and the same year, Anthony was named RE/MAX North America’s “Broker of the Year.”
