Casa Casuarina, the former Versace mansion, will be up for auction this September.

A bankruptcy court has appointed Fisher Auction Company to handle the sale of Casa Casuarina, the oceanfront South Beach mansion formerly owned by fashion icon, Gianni Versace.

The sale will be handled in conjunction with Coldwell Banker Residential Real Estate’s Realtors, Jill Hertzberg and Jill Eber.

Casa Casuarina expected to attract many prospective buyers

“We are very pleased to have the opportunity to manage the sale of this one-of-a-kind property,” Lamar Fisher, President and CEO of Fisher Auction Company. “We feel this beautifully appointed estate will draw significant attention from prospective buyers around the world.”

Casa Casuarina, described by Eber as the “Crown jewel of luxury real estate,” is more than 23,000 square-feet and was previously listed for as much as $125 million. The mansion, originally constructed in 1930, includes 10 bedrooms, 11 bathrooms and a 54-foot mosaic pool lined with 24-karat gold.

Versace purchased the mansion in 1992, adding another wing and making numerous upgrades. The property was purchased by its current owner in 2000.

“The Casa Casuarina is visually stunning, and is one of the most well known properties in the world,” Hertzberg said. “Right now, with the attention and action the high-end luxury real estate market in the Miami-area is receiving, it’s the perfect time to find the right buyer for this magnificent home. Whoever buys it will have instant celebrity.”

The property can be used for both residential or commercial purposes. For the past several years, the property operated as a 10-room boutique hotel, The Villa by Barton G., which closed earlier this year.

The auction will be held on Thursday, September 17 at 10:00 a.m. at the estate, located on 1116 Ocean Drive in Miami Beach. Registration will begin at 9:00 a.m. Bidders must be pre-qualified and place a $3 million deposit.
