Daniel Ickowicz of Elite International Realty

What was your most interesting job before going into real estate?
Before real estate, I worked in tourism at a Miami tour operator helping high-end international visitors get a feel for and explore the city. It was part hospitality, part crisis management, and it taught me the city street by street and how to understand what people are really looking for — knowledge I use every day in real estate.

Growing up, what did you want to be?
Growing up, I wanted to be in advertising. I landed in real estate, where I still craft campaigns and tell stories. Now, the product is a home.

What do you do to relax when you’re stressed?
I sit on my balcony and watch the canal and boats, which is very relaxing and very Miami.

Where is South Florida’s best-kept secret?
Kayaking or biking at the Oleta River State Park. You’ll forget you’re in a major metro.

What is the most difficult aspect of your job?
Time. Great deals die on delays. I fight every day to keep momentum and clarity at the forefront of Elite International’s operations.

What’s your best advice for generating new leads?
Own a niche, prove your expertise and follow up the same day.

What’s the weirdest thing that’s ever happened to you on the job?
At the closing table, the title agent handling our transaction passed away unexpectedly. It was surreal and deeply sad. We had to stay calm, support everyone and work to tactfully finish the deal.

What’s one thing people might be surprised to learn about you?
I can switch from negotiating a land assemblage to mixing a great martini, dirty or dry, without missing a beat.

What’s your favorite vacation spot and why?
Cascais, Portugal, for its walkability and coastal atmosphere.

In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry?
Be curious, communicate and most of all protect your clients.

Who are your favorite people to follow on social media?
I follow Mayor Francis Suarez (even as he wraps up his term) for his love for Miami.
