Miami ranks 7th in US for new apartment construction

by Elizabeth Kanzeg Rowland

Miami built more apartments in 2025 than most U.S cities, according to a new study from RentCafe. By the end of the year, the city will have added a total of 15,666 units.

The Magic City took 7th place, just below Charlotte, North Carolina, and Atlanta. New York ranked first.

Nationwide, 500,000 apartments will be completed this year. Nearly 52% will be in the South.

“This unprecedented level of new apartment developments is a direct response to the massive influx of people and capital into the Sunbelt states throughout the last decade, driven by job growth and a lower cost of living overall,” said RentCafe researchers. “In fact, the South has consistently seen the highest in-migration of any U.S. region since at least 2015, with more people moving in than moving out.”
