What was your most interesting job before going into real estate?
I worked at the New York Board of Trade from age 19-24 at the commodities exchange. I met people from all over the world. The work was intense, and it taught me to be extremely detail-oriented. The pressure was high.
Where did you grow up?
I lived in Venezuela until I was 16 and then moved to New York.
Growing up, what did you want to be?
I wanted to be a businessman. I loved science, engineering and building.
What do you do to relax when you’re stressed?
I spend time with my wife and my sons.
If you could meet any well-known figure (living or not), who would it be and why?
Ray Dalio and Elon Musk. I love observing people who have drastically different points of view and ways of being.
Where is South Florida’s best-kept secret?
I think the secret is the reality of the fact that we are just getting started. There is so much hype about Miami globally, but we’re really in our infancy as an economic powerhouse.
What do you love most about the industry?
I always say all roads lead to real estate. I love that you can be connected to people in so many industries, from musicians to architects to doctors, and learn about their lifestyles. This industry has endless possibilities.
What is the most difficult aspect of your job?
Allocating as much time to my team as my clients. It’s vital that I nurture my team and their growth.
What’s your best advice for generating new leads?
Keep building relationships because relationships always bring the most leads.
What are you binge-watching/reading/listening to lately?
I generally listen to real estate podcasts! I love sci-fi and am currently watching 3 Body Problem.
What’s your favorite meal in South Florida?
Mister O1 in Coconut Grove
Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in South Florida?
The Waldorf Astoria Hotel and Residences is going to be spectacular. I sold a penthouse on the 85th floor, which is a mind-boggling height for South Florida.
What’s the weirdest thing that’s ever happened to you on the job?
I was trying to close a deal, and my clients were traveling around the world. They took a pit stop in the airport just to sign documents for two hours. I spoke with them in advance and prepared the paperwork and actually closed the deal inside the airport.
What’s one thing people might be surprised to learn about you?
I am the biggest goof. I always find comedy and make things light. Life is serious enough!
What’s your favorite vacation spot and why?
I love London and think of the great times spent with my family there. It has the opposite climate of Miami, plus a rich history and soccer everywhere.
In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry?
Treat real estate like you would treat life. Commit 100%.
Who are your favorite people to follow on social media?
Ray Dalio. Bloomberg. Anything I can really learn from, I listen to. For me social media is an educational tool.
