Is this your dream home?

What do you think qualifies for a dream home? Great location? Great views? Homefinder recently did some research into dream homes, and they decided that a ‘dream home’ was a single family home listed above $1 million with ‘dream house’ or ‘dream home’ in the listing description. They pooled together their research to find averages — and the results are going to surprise you.

On average, a dream home is

  • $2,178,797 (listing price)
  • 4.4 bedrooms
  • 4.5 bathrooms
  • 5,380 square feet

A dream home is also rare. Only about .65 percent percent of all homes listed with Homefinder qualify for ‘dream home’ status.

The states with the most dream homes are:

  • New Jersey with 3 percent
  • Florida with 2 percent
  • Massachusetts with 2 percent
  • New York with 1.80 percent
  • California with 1.60 percent

The states with the most expensive dream home prices are:

  • Hawaii, at an average of $2.955 million.
  • New York, at $2.631 million.
  • Florida at $2.517 million.
  • Connecticut at $2.378 million.
  • California at $2.325 million.

The states with the least expensive dream homes are:

  • Maine at an average of $1.047 million.
  • Iowa at $1.085 million.
  • Vermont at $1.175 million.
  • Arkansas at $1.222 million.
  • New Mexico at $1.240 million.
