This week there has been a lot of discussion surrounding a new parking garage – yes parking garage – at 1111 Lincoln Road in Miami.
According to The Boston Globe, art enthusiast Robert Wennett purchased the property in which the garage was built in 2005. At the time, the property held a run down bank and parking lot that Wennett was hoping to turn into a profitable parking garage.
Wennett, along with the Swiss architect firm Herzog & de Meuron designed a concept unlike any other for the parking garage. The firm Herzog & de Meuron has been known for their famous work that included the Olympic Stadium in Beijing.
The $65 million parking garage is anything but just a parking garage. The garage features 360-degree views and an abundance of artwork. According to CultureMap.com, the garage can be rented out for approximately $15,000 a night. It has become a hot commodity for weddings and charity events.
The artsy garage also doubles as a private residence for Wennett, who built himself a penthouse apartment. This garage has brought plenty of attention and has become an attraction rather than a mere parking space.
