Melissa Rubin

Platinum Properties International, Coral Gables

What was your first job in the realty industry?
I worked for Keyes Realty Co. on Lincoln Road for 90 days.

Who inspires you and why?
Golda Meir has been a great inspiration in my life. She was relentless in her convictions to do right by her country and create change. She fought tooth and nail to achieve change and did this with passion and for all the right reasons.

What is your favorite free-time activity?
I enjoy going to the movies, especially foreign films. I adore traveling, particularly to Paris, Thailand and Australia, as I enjoy the enrichment of other cultures.

How did you learn the business?
I spent 20 years working for start-up companies and creating turnarounds for existing companies. Now I treat each client as a mini “key item” by listening, negotiating and meeting their needs.

What was the last good movie you saw or book you read?
“Last Holiday” starring Queen Latifah. I really enjoyed this movie, because it reinforced the sad fact that we are all so caught up in business that we forget to really live. It was spiritual and thought provoking, and it made me laugh and cry!

What is your favorite restaurant?
My favorite restaurant is Azul at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel on Brickell Key. It reminds me of Hong Kong. I also adore Big Pink on Miami Beach. They have the best sweet potato fries in the universe.

Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in Miami?
The new Performing Arts Center is my favorite building in Miami.

What kind of car do you drive?
I drive a Mercedes.

BlackBerry, Palm or paper, and why?
I use a Blackberry. To be connected by email all day is a must for me, as I am normally not at my desk. I still enjoy paper, as I enjoy writing down all my appointments and seeing the week in front of me.

What is your favorite city after Miami?
Paris, bien sur. There is no other choice.

What is your personal motto?
“I am so lucky in my life that I want to give back to the world as much as possible.”

In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry?
Work with passion, honesty, integrity and for the good of your clients, and you will always be successful.
