Miami has come a long way in recovering from the Covid-19 pandemic, according to a report from the University of Toronto.
The university analyzed mobile phone data in the downtown areas of over 60 of the largest metros in the U.S. and Canada to determine the amount of unique visitors in each city. They then compared that data to 2019 volumes to see which cities have recovered from the pandemic in terms of downtown activity.
In metros that have completely bounced back from Covid, like Las Vegas, unique cell phone data shows that more people visited during the time period from March to mid-June this year than they did during the same time period in 2019. However, Vegas was the only city on the university’s list to reach this milestone.
During that same time period, Miami saw 92% of the amount of visitors as in 2019, making it the No. 6 city in the U.S. and Canada for Covid recovery.
