What was your most interesting job before going into real estate?
Modeling and acting in Los Angeles.
Where did you grow up?
Connecticut and New York
Growing up, what did you want to be?
A forest ranger
What do you do to relax when you’re stressed?
I don’t get overly stressed, but when I do, I enjoy meditation, exercise and breath work.
If you could meet any well-known figure (living or not), who would it be and why?
Arnold Schwarzenegger, he was my hero and idol growing up, the reason why I got into fitness modeling and bodybuilding. He is a great inspiration, and I admire how he was not afraid to move out of his lane, get into politics and pursue other ventures in his life.
Where is South Florida’s best-kept secret?
Coconut Grove, although that is now on the map.
What do you love most about the industry?
I love the uncertainty that it brings. The constant changing dynamics, meeting people from all parts of the world, keeping up with the industry, traveling for work and leadership opportunities. Real estate keeps me on my toes and has opened so many doors. Every single day is different and exciting in its own way.
What is the most difficult aspect of your job?
Time management and staying focused. I have learned to keep the noise out and know when to delegate work. I like to preserve my energy for what and where it can best be utilized.
What’s your best advice for generating new leads?
Like the playoffs, you have to be focused on the current game you’re playing in and not let anything distract you from that game. I give 110% to my clients and focus on the deals I’m currently working on. The referrals will come as long as you always give each client your all.
What are you binge-watching/reading/listening to lately?
I just finished Warrior on Netflix. I’m now watching Night Agent, and I’m reading Trusted Advisor.
What’s your favorite meal in South Florida?
My favorite restaurant is Novikov. They have a duck dish that is out of this world! Everything on the menu is incredible.
Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in South Florida?
1000 Museum by Zaha Hadid. I love the backstory; it was featured on PBS for Impossible Builds, and it is fascinating how it was conceptualized and implemented. There are no two units alike, which is extremely unique.
What’s the weirdest thing that’s ever happened to you on the job?
Walking into a house when people may not remember they’re expecting company.
What’s one thing people might be surprised to learn about you?
I’m a serious nature nerd. I collect rocks and fossils, and I love it.
What’s your favorite vacation spot and why?
St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands. My family had a house there when I was growing up, and we have wonderful memories. Whenever I want to relax, I envision my favorite beach, which is off the beaten path in St. John. The island feels remote and rural with 2/3 of the island deeded as a wildlife refuge. You see every kind of unexpected creature. You also have to arrive by boat, as there is no airport, which also feels adventurous.
In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry?
Tony Robbins’ keys to mastery: Modeling, Total Immersion and Spaced Repetition.
Who are your favorite people to follow on social media?
@ivanandmiketeam, @martirena
What are your social media handles?
@ivanandmiketeam, ivan_miamibch
