More baby boomers are moving to these five Miami neighborhoods

by Ashley Bowden

A growing number of baby boomers, those born between 1948 and 1962, are attracted to the sunshine and sandy beaches that coastal Miami has to offer. A high number of baby boomers moved to five Miami ZIP codes between 2012 and 2017 following the recent trend that suggests more seniors are beginning to branch out from the suburbs to more urban areas.

Miami didn’t make it into the top 20 biggest ZIP codes for new baby boomer residents, but Florida remains a popular state for retirees. According to census data gathered by RENTCafé, Westview (33167) saw a 29.9 percent rise in baby boomers over five years, making it the third-most popular Florida ZIP code for baby boomers in recent years behind Pompano Beach (33066) at No. 2  and Lakeland (33815) at No. 1. Lakeland ranks No. 19 on the national top 20 list with about 2,874 baby boomers living in the area as of 2017.

Neighborhoods including Coral Gables (33146), Miami Beach (33132), Cutler Bay (33189) and West Miami (33144) also experienced about a 25 percent increase in their baby boomer population over five years. Pompano Beach has the fourth largest share of baby boomers in the nation with 6,532 boomers, and Fort Lauderdale (33308) has the fifth-largest with 8,051.
