Miami neighborhood named one of America’s 10 most expensive

by Lauren Brocato

Fisher Island, located three miles off mainland Florida, was named the fifth-most expensive neighborhood in the U.S., according to a ranking by Realtor.com.

Once entirely owned by the Vanderbilt family, the island is only accessible by boat or helicopter and contains about 200 Spanish-style homes.

“Fisher Island has a tropical feel, and it is almost like one big park,” luxury real estate agent Dolly Lenz told Realtor.com. “Homes either have an ocean view or one of the bay and city skyline.”

With an average listing price of $3 million, buyers can easily come across condos priced north of $5 million. The most common buyers are wealthy Russian businessmen in search of a break from the cold winters back home, said Lenz.

The top 10 most expensive cities are:

  1. Atherton, California
  2. Los Altos, California
  3. Tribeca (New York City), New York
  4. Median, Washington
  5. Fisher Island (Miami Beach), Florida
  6. Glenbrook, Nevada
  7. Beacon Hill (Boston), Massachusetts
  8. Woods Hole, Massachusetts
  9. Snowmass, Colorado
  10. Wilson, Wyoming
