Miami partners with local startup to ease development zoning hurdles

by Claire Smith

Gridics has announced a partnership with the city of Miami to create Zonar.City, the first digital zoning software application of its kind. The application is designed to aid in the sometimes slow and painful zoning process by expediting development plan compliance reviews, conducting real-time 3D development scenarios and visually testing proposed zoning code changes, the company said.

The new program will integrate the city’s zoning regulations and codes with property records and parcel information to allow developers to create potential 3D development scenarios in one interface, according to a press release. Hopefully, the program will speed up development plan reviews, a serious snag in building projects that developers and city leaders alike have been looking to expedite.

“With Zonar.City we have solved the complex puzzle of dependent rules that has made it so difficult to turn a city’s zoning code into an interactive experience to help drive smarter planning and zoning approval processes,” Jason Doyle, CEO of Gridics, said in a statement. “Every city can now take a leap forward in their approach to zoning and planning while strengthening their transparency and communication with private citizens, particularly those in the development community that become Zonar users as well.”

Local startup going national

Gridics, a local startup, successfully completed a $1.1 million round of seed funding, led by Dune Road Capital and leading Miami real estate developer Avra Jain.

In addition to raising over $1 million in development capital to further strengthen their software and application, Gridics announced the beta launch of their Market Intelligence application, which allows real estate professionals to conduct hyper-local market analysis across the Gridics database and their partnership with Redevelopment Management Associates to implement the software on projects in Pompano Beach, Sunrise and Lake Park, reports the Miami Herald.

Gridics was founded in 2015 by three University of Miami graduate students. “We are thrilled by the reception we’ve received from cities that have been introduced to Zonar.City,” says Jason Doyle, CEO of Gridics.
