Piper Rothan is a Realtor with The Keyes Company in Miami/Ft. Lauderdale.

Every week, we ask a Miami real estate professional for their thoughts on the top three stories from the week before.

This week, we talked with Piper Rothan, a Master Brokers Forum member and top producer with expertise in Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, Martin and Indian River Counties who is renowned for her unique marketing efforts.

Miami Agent (MA): Our content on top producers in Miami generated a huge interest among readers; if someone asked you for advice on how to become a top producer, what would you tell them?

Piper Rothan (PR): True top producers have an amazing sphere of influence, so they have built-in business. Somebody who is just starting out in the business, they’ll need to be consistent and attract clients. And second, you should be yourself. High-end clients are looking for somebody they can trust, and somebody who is smart. It doesn’t come down to living their lifestyle; they just want somebody they can trust and somebody who is relevant in the industry in terms of knowledge, not status.

MA: One of the top stories on our site dealt with the effect of sequestration cuts; do you consider such policies when working as an agent, or is your attention better spent towards your business?

PR: It’s funny, if I were in a different market, maybe I’d have more concern. Ignorance is bliss here, because in the Florida market, it’s amazing how much cash is flowing around here. Florida has so much wealth. So I think I’d be more astute to changes in the economy and how that affect me locally if I were elsewhere, but our local economy here in Florida is just an enigma.

MA: Finally, our content on real estate photography continues to attract readers; can you explain the value in good photography for real estate?

PR: It’s essential; your photography is all a buyer in another country will have to look at when they are viewing your property. The MLS did make a requirement that photos have to be uploaded in a 24-hour period, but what you’re seeing is people doing stupid photography just to meet the requirement. If you look at the top 20 percent of the Realtors who are selling 80 percent of the real estate, they all have great photography. It’s doing your sellers a disservice if you’re not using great photographs.
