So far, 422,000 loans have been privately modified in through July 2011, compared to 183,000 HAMP modifications through June 2011. Though government data is not yet available for July, trends suggest that HAMP totals for the month will be roughly 30,000 to 35,000. Even with the July data, private modifications would still be outpacing government modifications by a 2-to-1 ratio.
“We are happy to see an increase in permanent proprietary loan modifications for the month of July,” said Faith Schwartz, who is an executive director for Hope Now.
Schwartz was also encouraged by July’s 11% drop in foreclosure starts and a relatively meager 2% increase in 60-day delinquencies.
