Colombia ranked as the top country for global searches for South Florida real estate, according to new statistics from the Miami Association of Realtors (MIAMI). Colombia has led the ranking for three consecutive months, originally leading in the rankings through MIAMI’s search portal, Miamire.com, in February 2016.

Venezuela and Brazil finished second and third for online real estate searches respectively, according to MIAMI’s numbers. Brazil, which topped searches for South Florida real estate for 13 consecutive months, placed third for the first time since November 2013, MIAMI said. The February 2016 numbers also showed increased interest in South Florida real estate from the Philippines and the United Kingdom.

Miami is popular with international buyers

“Despite the strength of the U.S. dollar, international home buyers continue to search, buy and invest in Miami real estate,” said Mark Sadek, the 2016 MIAMI chairman of the board in a written statement. “With 51 percent of its population foreign born, Miami has a unique history of welcoming and embracing all cultures.”

According to MIAMI, Colombians tied with Argentinians in purchasing the third-most real estate in Miami. According to a survey conducted by MIAMI and the National Association of Realtors, Colombia accounted for 10 percent of all foreign Miami transactions; only Venezuelan (13 percent) and Brazilian (12 percent) buyers purchased more.

“International home buyers feel at home here,” Sadek said.
